Our Ottawa Futures Event held May 16, 2017 at Social Restaurant and Lounge offered Loyalist Club members an exclusive tasting of the 2015 Vintage and the opportunity to get up close with winemaker Keith Tyers. In his words, ” this evening is a place where we can be together to talk wine”.
Keith exudes enthusiasm and passion. He’s justifiably proud of his first vintage after taking the helm of Closson Chase, describing the wines as fantastic, gorgeous, and glorious. It’s especially gratifying after managing a hard growing season where weather conditions were variable and often record-breaking. Despite Mother Nature’s challenges the Closson Chase team vigilantly maintained the vineyard and stayed the course to grow exceptional wine-worthy grapes; intense in flavor, complex and truly reflective of the terroir. Since total production = only 500 cases the wines are being offered at special events with priority being given to Loyalist Club members .
On another note, Keith admitted he is “truly happy” when conversation veered to the 2016 Vintage. The wines are already showing very well.
As for the future, Keith divulged that he is on the hunt for new barrels for the Pinot program. Since the marriage of Pinot Noir and oak is a delicate and contentious relationship; the right oak will elevate the wine to even greater heights.
Take away from the evening : the Closson Chase team vows to continue to create wines and experiences that are truly exceptional and memorable.
